History

The station opened in 1912 and was temporarily closed in 1996 before being permanently closed on 6 November 2002.[1]

In 2004-05, ten passengers purchased tickets for travel to the station,[2] placing it higher than Gainsborough Central.

Future

The planned Croxley Rail Link will bring the disused railway back into use and it is planned that this station be completely rebuilt and reopen as Watford General Hospital tube station in 2016.[3] The platforms will be below booking hall level in the cutting in which the line runs at this point, and accessed by stairs and lifts. The main entrance would remain to the east of Tolpits Lane.[4]

Watford West station would be demolished and the space used to house an electrical substation.[3]
